What year did Volvo start building these? It was sometime in the late 1990's, right

I believe the XC came out in 99.

'Twas the year of 1997.
Fun Fact: They offered an optional heated rear seat which was rather hard to find at the time.
Good looking interior - it's aged pretty well, which is nice since the design is about to become legal in 2015...

Hah. I wanted one of these at the time since America was in the throes of SUV love (Colorado doubly so) and the V70 looked kind of anti-SUV to me. I ended up with a Montero.
In an alternate universe though, I'm driving around Denver in a V70 yelling at hipsters to stop wearing girl jeans.

It's especially good, since that was just a relatively light refresh of the 850's interior (and exterior) that dates back to 1993. And, those seats are some of the most comfortable around.
My (rather well-worn) 1996 850R:

That interior has aged well, and I can't believe that heated rear seats were available in 1997 already.

It's actually one of those cars that you can easily come across with stupid-low miles. I guess a fair amount were vacation cars or owned by old people.
Not too long ago, there was one that went on eBay that was a '99 w/ 36k (heavily documented), with every feature including heated rear seats. I think it went for maybe 11K.
